Teal Sutton

Teal began her artistic swimming journey at the age of just four, inspired by her older sister Imogen. She joined the City of Birmingham (COB) club, starting in the learn-to-swim sessions where she spent her early years mastering the fundamentals of the sport.

With a passion for the water and a drive to improve, Teal moved up to the main squad and began competing in the 12 & Under category. She has since attended numerous Combo Cups and National Age Group Championships (NAGs), where she thrived on the challenge of learning new routines and forming friendships with fellow swimmers from across the country.

In 2024, at the age of ten, Teal performed her first solo and made an immediate impact—winning two bronze medals and a silver. Her standout performance caught the attention of national selectors, and she was invited to trial for the England Development Squad. Following a successful trial in autumn 2024, Teal secured a spot as the youngest member of the squad. Her commitment includes weekly remote flexibility sessions and regular in-person training camps at the High Performance Centre in Bristol.

March 2025 marked a milestone in Teal’s career at the National Age Group Championships, where she earned an astonishing four gold medals in the 12U category for figures, solo, mixed duet, and combo team.

Shortly after, Teal represented the City of Birmingham at her first international competition, the Hungary Open, where she competed against a strong field of young athletes from around the world. Out of 161 swimmers in the 12U figures, she placed 16th, and in the solo event, she achieved a personal best and finished 5th out of 19. The highlight came in the 12U Mixed Duet, where she proudly stood atop the podium with a gold medal.

Teal loved every moment of the Hungary Open—from the excitement of parading in the opening ceremony to the friendships she built with international swimmers. Her talent is beginning to be recognised beyond the UK, with interest from other countries marking a new chapter in her artistic swimming career.

With six weekly training sessions, Teal’s dedication is clear. In recognition of her achievements and potential, she was recently selected to be part of the Sporting Champions Scheme by Everyone Active.

Looking ahead, Teal is determined to continue her journey in the England squads, embracing the evolving structure of the national programme. She credits much of her progress to the unwavering support of the City of Birmingham coaching team, especially coach Ali Pratt, whose guidance has been instrumental in her development.
